The side saddle is a specialized saddle that is available in both Western and English types. There are some riders that prefer the side saddle for riding outside of sidesaddle competitions. This is because side saddles are comfortable and secure for general riding purposes. Some side saddles are designed with two horns on front and flaps of opposing lengths. The side with the long flap is for the riders leg comfort, the other flap is very short.

Side saddles are mostly considered inappropriate for general riding, however, can be a great choice for those unable to ride astride due to injury or discomfort.
